Breast Cancer Awareness

10426799_10201625006465379_2107239723259917494_n

At only 36 years old and married with three children, I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. May 25, 2012 was the day I received that shocking news. Shortly after diagnosis, I decided to publicly announce my diagnosis to family and friends on my Facebook page.

My private matter turned public very quickly, which is what I wanted. I felt led to open my page to “strangers” to spread awareness and share my faith walk. I befriended any and every one who wanted to follow my journey towards healing. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and the connections I have made are unparalleled to anything I have ever experienced.  People prayed for me daily, shared personal stories about their victories and/or struggles with cancer and other medical conditions.

Every phase of my journey was shared on my page – the emotional ups and downs, surgeries, chemotherapy, and my healing. On November 27, 2012, I received the test results showing that I am now CANCER FREE. And on February 14, 2013, I had my final surgery, which concluded my journey with breast cancer and its treatments (although I still take one prescription medication over the next 5 years to reduce a recurrence).

“When push comes to shove, WALK IN FAITH!” This was my mission statement while fighting breast cancer.  I claimed that at the end of this journey I would be more than a CONQUEROR — and I am! I am a SURVIVOR. I am a THRIVER. I am MORE than a CONQUEROR. And I give ALL praises and honor to God.
